Two Congress polling agents allegedly threatened during fresh polling in Manipur

Two polling agents of the Indian National Congress candidate Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam were allegedly threatened on Monday as fresh polls were conducted at 11 polling stations.

Imphal, Manipur, April 23 (HBTV): Two polling agents of the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam were allegedly threatened on Monday as fresh polls were conducted at 11 polling stations for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency seat.        



Speaking at the Congress Bhavan after the completion of fresh elections at 11 polling stations on Monday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee’s (MPCC) working president Kh Devbrata said two polling agents at Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School (Khurai AC) and S Ibobi Primary School Khurai Sajor Leikai (Khurai AC) were threatened by some persons.                



In one incident, INC polling agent Ajitkumar was called on the phone and allegedly told to have his last meal.         



In another incident, Ningthoujam Sheetalaxhmi, acting as a Congress agent at S Ibobi Primary School polling station, was also threatened.                 



Debrata said the MPCC has lodged a written complaint with the returning officer about these incidents.  The authorities are expected to look into the matter and book all the culprits at the earliest, he said.    



The Congress leader accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of resorting to ‘extreme and ugly’ forms of malpractices during the Lok Sabha elections.     



Highlighting the malpractices and disruptions, the MPCC lodged a complaint with the authorities seeking fresh polling in 36 polling stations of Inner Manipur constituency and 11 polling stations in Outer Manipur constituency.
